Stephanie Williams – Founder & Director – 11+, GCSE / A level – Business Studies, Economics, English, Maths & Music
Stephanie has Qualified Teacher Status and obtained a BA Hons Degree in Business and Marketing Management. After graduating, Stephanie worked in Secondary Education for three years before undertaking private tuition for the 11+. When tutoring students for the 11+ Exam, many tutors will only teach the technique of answering exam questions, whereas the S6 Tutoring style of teaching focuses on ensuring each and every student is taught the comprehension of the question. Stephanie differentiates the work to the basic level then builds on individual knowledge and understanding step by step, which simultaneously enhances confidence. This becomes noticeable when sitting mock exams, which are monitored and assessed throughout the course on a regular basis. Stephanie has selected the best resources which are key to the success of S6 Tutoring.
Jimmy Allan – 11+, GCSE English & Maths
Jimmy holds an Honours degree in Primary Education from the University of Lancaster. Jimmy has taught in a variety of settings, a wide age range, both primary and secondary students. This has given him an excellent understanding of the progression in learning and the building blocks required to secure the highest attainment. His eldest daughter was awarded her place at Westcliff High School for Girls with the support of S6 Tutoring and the 11+ exam club, so he has first-hand experience of the testing requirements of the selective system.
Jason Durning – Creative Writing and Literacy Specialist
Jason has a BA in English and History, and an MA in History from NUI Maynooth in Ireland. Following his MA, he achieved his qualification in Teaching from NUI Galway. Jason has taught for over a decade in a variety of different countries, including Korea and Japan, experiencing and mastering a number of different pedagogy styles and working with students from the age of 4+ to university. A lot of this involved one on one tutoring in EFL settings with students, for who English, was a secondary language. Jason currently teaches A level classes in KS5 Higher English language and literature, as well as KS3 and KS4 in Essex. Having taught in so many different environments, Jason has a deep understanding of the individual needs of each student and how their background can affect their learning.
Susan King – 11+, GCSE English & Maths
Sue has an honours degree from Brunel University and a post-graduate diploma in education. She spent her early career in local government and following a career break to bring up her own children, Sue has gained 15 years experience working in education and education support services. Sue is convinced that education can transform children’s lives. Her work in S6 Tutoring enables Sue to continue her personal contribution to helping children to achieve their full potential.
Lyn Sirkett – 11+ , GCSE English & Maths
Lyn has a BA undergraduate degree in English, with a double major in English and Journalism. She also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business and People Management. A native of the UK and now permanently resident in Essex, Lyn has been a long term resident of Australia. She has worked as a journalist in various countries around the world. During her travels and time overseas she has worked in Education, tutoring children in English, both in Australia and China. Lyn also tutors primary schoolchildren in Literacy and Numeracy as well as undergraduate and postgraduate university students in GSCE /IGSCE English, Media Studies and Creative Writing.
Helen Wallis – 11+, GCSE / A level English, Maths & Psychology
Helen has been teaching in the Secondary sector for over 10 years and held the post of Deputy Head of Department in English, delivering the KS3, KS4 & KS5 curriculum for English Language & Literature. Helen has a unique understanding of the standard children need to achieve at secondary school and as a former student of Chelmsford County High School, is also aware of the challenges which grammar schools place on their new students. Helen currently works alongside S6 Tutoring via video links, whilst on secondment in St Helena, as advisor to Education and Government Policy.
Sally-Anne Drury – 11+ Tutor
Sally-Ann graduated at the University of Portsmouth and continued her education with a Post Graduate Teacher Training course, and now mentors and teaches students aged 11 – 16. Sally-Anne is dedicated to ensuring children receive the best education available and proud to see her students continually improve and achieve their greatest potential as part of an on-going process throughout the academic year
Maria Lawrence – Spanish Tutor
Maria has a Degree in Business Studies from San Martin de Porres University, Lima, Peru. After 15 years as an Administrator in the Peruvian Water industry she moved to the UK in 2004 where she qualified as a Teaching Assistant and gained a C&G Delivering Learning. She has since been tutoring Spanish to a wide range of students from 5 to 75 years old, including those needing Spanish for business purposes and those studying for GCSE and A level.
Joan Williams – Management Support
Previously an account executive within a public relations agency, composing and disseminating press releases, then Senior PA at Director/CEO level in various global institutions. Joan has been with the S6 Academy since its inception and currently maintains documentation and content for the website.
