    Tug Of War!

During the summer holidays, my friends and I wanted to have some fun and go to the park! I decided to take a rope just in case we wanted to play tug of war! My friend (Alex) and I headed languidly to the park. But our eagerness was unbridled, so we ran as fast as cheetah.

All my friends were there so we decided to play a game of tug of war! I split us up into teams. I am the strongest in my class, so I’m determined that I will win!

    “Where’s the rope?” asked Alex.

I secretly pulled the rope out of my pocket.

    ” Ta da! Magic”

Bob felt morose because he knew that he was going to lose. We all got onto our sides and I exclaimed “3! 2! 1!. GOOO!!

I was the leader of my team and my other friend, Bob was the leader of his team. We all tugged with all our might! But unfortunately, one of my team players had fallen into the mud and started crying! It was so embarassing!

“Stop being a cry baby, Rosie!”

She was so annoyed that she ran away and went home. 2v3, so intense… After 15 minutes had passed, it was only the team captains left to tug! Bob and I were sweating outrageously. As he took a deep breath, I caught him off guard and tugged as hard as I could to make his face splatter in the musty mud. It turned out that I was the one and only true master of tug of war…

Pull, pull as hard as you can. We’re about to win!” Ordered Ben.
“Don’t let them win, use all your strength,” declared Jim.
Ben yelled, “you can’t fall now Joseph, because if you fall, we will lose.”
Jim commanded ” do your attacking position, let’s show them who’s best.”
“Just a tad bit more.” Cried Ben.
    “NO!” Screamed Jim.
    “YES!” Shouted Ben.

  3. Tension rose as both great teams took their precise positions, behind the rope. The look of pressure throughout faces of the competitors showed hugely. Cheering sounded out like alarms and the competition, soon after, began.

It was the annual tug of war contest – the moment everyone was waiting for, had come. Silence had fallen, as the voice counted down from ten… Beep! The horn blew and both team (fighting to win), tugged the rope heavily. With their red, raw hands, still clinging on, it looked far from effortless. Roaring of the crowd was a pride of lions, growling continuously.

The clapping died down and the tug of war had come to a sudden halt. “And the winners are … Team One” The look of exclamation on the referee’s face, was as if he had just seen a dinosaur. He was obviously shocked.

It was an amazing experience and I hope to, some day, compete!

    The Final Game

I started tugging as hard as I could. The other team was made up of fierce buffaloes, who possessed cunning minds and mighty strength. Something in my brain told me that this was going to be an anticipating battle.

Beads of sweat were trickling down my cheek. Enthralled by my new found self-esteem, I pulled harder and harder. Consequently, we were losing players. Most of them falling into the mud and vice versa. It was just me versus one other player on the other team. Knowing that he was considerably, a weak player, I tugged with no effect at all and that person fell into the mud. We had won the game.

    A Tug of War

“James, I’m bored!” moaned Lucy to her brother as she walked along in the scorching hot sizzling summer’s heat.

“Give your brother a break; he’s trying to find something for us all to do,” replied Sam defending his friend.

“Hey guys, there’s a tug of war competition in the park in fifteen minutes, it says that there is a deadline for signing up and it’s in five minutes so if you guys want to go we’ll have to go now,” said James in a high pitched voice.

“Sounds good to me,” the pair replied in exact synchronisation and the trio raced over to the park faster than three lightning bolts.

“One minute remaining until the deadline and we’re here,” said Lucy struggling to breathe.

“Hello kids, are you here to sign up for the tug of war competition,” a tall slim woman appeared from behind a desk in the sign up tent.

“Yes we are and our team name is the muscles,” James replied.

“Sorry, we already have that name,” the lady replied.

“How about the unicorns,” Lucy shouted.

“NO!” James and Sam replied, but it was too late and pen had been met by paper.
“We have eight teams all of three, good luck!” the lady said disappearing behind the desk.

“Up first we have the Unicorns versus the Kangaroos!” said the referee.

“Ha, there all year fives at school we’ll easily beat them,” James said.

“I’m a year five!” complained Lucy.

“We know but your brother and I are year sixes,” answered Sam.

“Three, Two, One, go!” Shouted the referee. The competition began, both teams pulled as hard as they could, but with the two year sixes the Unicorns won. As the round progressed the other three teams that got through were the Killers, the Raptors and the Muscles.

“Next up the Unicorns versus the Killers. Three, Two, one, go!” The referee started the match. The killers had faced an all year four girl team and had beaten them with ease, but they were still made up with year five boys.

The trio heaved and heaved and finally the Killers front man tripped over and knocked down the rest of his team.

“Were in the final!” shouted Lucy as the Muscles and the Raptors lined up. Within five seconds the muscles were victorious and joined the Unicorns in the final.

“The winner of this match wins twelve packs of Haribo sweets!” Shouted the referee to the ever-growing crowd.

“For the final time today, three, Two, One, go!” the referee started the match.
The two teams yanked and pulled but were still neck and neck when Lucy called out “aeroplane!”

The muscles, James and Sam looked up and Lucy heaved as hard as she could pulling the muscles to the ground.

“We won!” shouted Lucy to James and Sam whilst the Muscles protested to the referee. The trio raced off to James and Lucy’s house grabbing their four packs of Haribo’s each.

    The Tug-of-war

It was school sports day! The day was lovely and sunny with a delicious breeze. The main individual event, the long distance, was already starting. As the sharp, high-pitched whistle marked that the race had begun, Rona was filled with anxiety. Her sport was next- the Tug of War.

Even though this was her best sport, Rona thought she might get seriously injured. Her three girl team was the best it could be. Tia was the strongest girl in Rona’s year group and Nina-Rose was very hard to defeat. Rona wasn’t strong or hard to defeat, but her positive nature made her a number one team leader.

Rona, Tia and Nina-Rose were called forth from the throng of children standing cheering at the race going on. While Tia and Nina-Rose were being prepared, Izzy, Rona’s older sister, came to wish her good luck.

“And oh, yeah you’re against Matt, Callum and Rocky from Year 2 so it should be quite a challenge.” Izzy finished as she flounced off.

Rona pondered over what Izzy had told her. Matt Thomas, Callum Whitfield and Rocky Farmer were the toughest boys in school. The whistle shrieked out to signify the Tug-of-War had begun.

The rope was held by six determined children, 3 girls and 3 boys, all wanting to win. The boys pulled with all their strength, but the girls dug their heels in. Slowly but surely the boys were gaining turf and the ribbon was edging, like a snail, towards their winning line. The boy’s parents were going wild, whilst the girl’s parents screamed for them to pull harder. Unseen the rope started to fray, the boys pulled, the girls heaved and SNAP! The rope broke. The force sent the boys reeling backwards and they watched in dazed horror as the ribbon shot like a rocket past the girls’ winning line and landed in a triumphant pile at the champion’s feet. The girls were victorious.

    The Grizzly Bear

Yet again, another school year passed and it was time for the Summer Holidays! However, Joe, John and Lucy weren’t looking forward to it. For some reason, the caretaker loathed this trio and would award them with thankless tasks. This year, Stan the caretaker, asked them to look after the school pet. Ravenbridge’s pet isn’t normal though, it’s a grizzly bear! This was an enormous problem, as none of them knew how to look after it. Consequently, these three wanted school to continue but they knew it wouldn’t. Unfortunately, the end of the day soon arrived.

It was a struggle, but they got the bear home without any suspicion from the neighbours. It was hard pulling the rope, however their troubles were worth it. “Can you believe we had to use a rope to pull that thing?” asked John.
“Well, look at the size of him. He’s immense!” replied Joe,
“He’s not that bad,” Lucy mentioned.
    The boys answered, “I suppose.”
At that moment, their mum walked in, “Hi, you three!”
“Oh no! How are we going to explain to mum that we’ve got a grizzly bear?” shouted John.
    “I don’t know,” answered Lucy.

  9. On one sunny morning a little boy called Binder was getting dressed for his friends party at 1: 00 pm. He kept on saying to his mum to go to the party so of they went. When Binder ran inside the games began and all his friends were there. The first game was musical statues but immediately he was out for twitching his nose. The second game was pass the parcel and Binder didn’t get a single prize! All the other games Binder lost until the last one ,tug of war. Binder didn’t bother trying but straight away before the opponent got his grip ,Binder pulled and WON!!!

“The Ravens got a good start on this intensive game of tug-of-war. Oh look at that, John’s foot slipped but he still stayed on his feet. What a jerky pull from the Bats, but wait a minute the ravens are tugging even harder. The crowd are going wild at such an incredible game. Both teams are standing their ground. Woah, Tim down finally! I can’t believe what a extraordinary game this was. It must have broken at least some time records! WOW!”

One hot summers day, Lucy, Oliver and William decided to enter the tug of war competition that was held in their local park. First they were against two twelve year olds. After about five minutes of pulling the rope, Lucy, Oliver and William won the match.

Then they were against one 23 year old adult. This time the match took longer. Then all of a sudden, the 23 year old lost concentration and Lucy, Oliver and William won.

Now was the finals. Lucy, Oliver and William against three 10 year olds.
Everyone wanted to win so they pulled their hardest. But the brothers and sister team were just too good for the 10 year old team. Lucy, Oliver and William had won the competition!

Their prize was a massive trophy that said 100% Winners. Since all three of them wanted the trophy, they started arguing over it. All of them held the trophy and started pulling it. Then…Crack! The trophy broke. Lucy was so sad that she started crying. All of them were devastated.

From that day on Lucy, Oliver and William never argued over things again.

    TUG OF WAR!!

    The time had come,
    Understand the rules,
    Grip was buried in us,

    Our strength was too powerful,
Face the mud disaster or be the last team standing,

    Win or lose,
    Audaciously took our position,
    Ready, steady, PULLL!!!

  16. Oscar says:

As I bent down to clasp the rope beside my feet the great tug of war commenced. Abruptly the rope tensed, the battle was on. The coarse sand coloured rope swam through my hands giving me rose red rashes. I held on. A crackled snap deafened everyone within a metre near it, I closed my eyes … then cheers broke out. I opened my eyes, the rope had ripped into two segments and the enemy team were smothered in brown dirt on the floor. WE WON!

  17. It was the tug of war finals at the village’s summer fete a week ago.

“1, 2, 3, HEAVE!!!” Screamed Bob “Come on Jack show them that you’re heavy and don’t forget to dig your feet in! Lily, show them what you’re made of. Show them the muscles Dave!”

Bob was bubbling with excitement about winning this final match of the tug of war contest. The winners got free tickets to a sports match or game of their choice.
The rope went back and forth, the crowd got louder and louder, the tension got more and more, the teams got very tired. Who was going to win.

The other team where winning, though and Bob could feel relentless anxiety churning in his stomach. The other team where about to win, when…

The player at the back, on the other team, slipped, knocking the others over, Bob’s team thought they had it…

But Tim’s team, seemed to have perpetual strength and they held the rope back, they managed to get up, evenso they were gradually losing their strength.

The rope was coming nearer and nearer to Bob’s team’s victory, gradually, the crowd became quieter and quieter until they were silent, the contestants’ shirts were sticking to them, because of the stale sweat that had seeped from them at the beginning of the, 2 hour match. Yes, that is a very long time. But sooner or later someone has to win, and this time, it was Bob’s team, so Bob and his team all got a ticket, and left the other team, cursing each other and mumbling.

My face was a mask of determination, as I clenched my teeth and pulled the rope as hard as I could. I could feel the coarse rope burning my soft, sweaty hands. Suddenly, I heard the rope rip.

The other team fell to the ground and my team victoriously stood in front of them. Slowly, the pounding eased in my chest and the sweat dried on my brow.
