CEM is the Centre of Evaluation & Monitoring at Durham University and is an independent research group devoted to the improvement of teaching and learning for children and young people across the world. The CEM 11+ has been designed to be less predictable than other types of 11+ examination.
Widely adopted by schools seeking to use “tutor-proof” 11+ entry assessments, CEM papers are NOT generic and are developed in line with the individual local authorities / schools requirements. They are frequently changed and can be either computer or paper based.
CEM – Key Information
- Practice materials are not provided directly from CEM but our extensive experience with these examinations has enabled us to develop our own materials and examinations which are consistent with what we know from previous years.
- Familiarity Sheets are generally available directly from the schools that use CEM examinations and it is essential that all pupils go through these carefully to understand the types of questions that they will be asked.
- CEM exams are known to have very challenging vocabulary and tough time limits.
- Historically, CEM tests have consisted of Two 45 minute papers both of which include:
- Verbal Ability (Comprehension, reading and vocabulary skills)
- Non Verbal reasoning,
- Maths
Each assessment is divided into specifically timed sections and each individual section is introduced by an example.
