Primary Education in England is broken down into 3 stages.  These 3 stages are commonly known as Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.  Children are tested at several points during their primary education to check their progress, with a view to ensuring that satisfactory standards of basic numeracy and literacy are met.  Primary education also looks to establish a strong foundation in mathematics, science and several other key subjects.
